SROM – Warning system |
Impulse type system for remote operation monitoring (SROM) is used for systematic control of insulation condition and timely detection of insulation sections with increased percentage of moisture in pre-insulated underground pipelines during their operating time.
Benefits of impulse type SROM:
Allows precisely detecting accident sites with different kinds of damage (wire break, short circuit failure, leakage and so on) |
Allows detecting several accident sites simultaneously, estimate damage type and rate |
Possibility of documenting, comparing and monitoring insulation condition |
Possibility of PC use |
High anti-interference ability |
SROM elements:
Monitoring system wires |
Elements for wiring work |
Connecting cables |
End and intermediate pipeline elements with hermetic cable output |
End pipeline elements with loopback of signal wire under metal insulation plug |
Switching terminals |
Cover boxes |
Moisture detectors |
Moisture locator |
Control instruments and mounters |
Basic requirements to the SROM elements:
| Distance from copper wire to steel pipe .......................................................................................................... 15 mm |
Insulation resistance of one pipe or shaped element between signal wire and steel pipe (20 meters of wires and less)
should be not less than .............................................................................................................................. 10 MOms |
Insulation resistance of 300 m of pipes (600 m of wires) should be not less than ............................................... 1 MOm
if pipeline length increases, the resistance reduces inversely. |
To control insulation resistance of assembled pipeline and separate shaped elements you should use voltage ......... 500 V
without connecting to measuring circuit of measuring terminals with low-frequency plug-bridges |
Voltage for controlling heat network moisture content when measuring terminals are plugged in should be controlled
by voltage which does not exceed .................................................................................................................... 220 V |
| Resistivity of copper wire ....................................................................................................... R = 0,012-0,015 Om/m |
Acceptable resistance of assembled wires of ROM system…………not less than 200 Om for 5 km. of pipeline
Excess of acceptable value shows that wires have been improperly connected. |

Help in SROM designing, installing and maintenance |
To install signal system at the joints you should use special crimping sleeves which provide splicing of signal wires.
SROM wiring work is made after steel pipe welding. While welding steel pipe polyurethane foam insulation ends should be protected with aluminum shield to prevent damage of signal wires and insulation layer. |

Application of warning systems is regulated by the following documents:
STB (National Standard of the Republic of Belarus) 1295-2001 “Steel pipes pre-insulated with polyurethane foam” |
Regulations for installment and safe operation of steam and hot water pipelines ratified by Ministry of Emergency and Ministry of Labor of the Republic of Belarus (30.11.1998). |
All practical questions of designing PI - pipeline systems are covered in “Sarmat” Ltd. publications:
“Recommendations for PI -pipeline designing” |
